Lake Forest College is excited to once again participate in the 32nd annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This year's program will be held on Sunday, February 18, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sports and Recreation Center and is offered to all young women ages 6-14.
The 2018 theme is “Play Fair, Play IX”. This is an appropriate theme as Play IX is in reference to Title IX, an act passed in 1972 that requires men and women to be provided equal opportunities to participate in sports. Additionally, “Play IX” is an interactive messenger game that helps educate students, coaches, parents, and administrators about the many rights that Title IX protects in athletics.
Registration begins at 12:15 p.m. and activities will run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Participants will rotate through a series of stations featuring volleyball, running, basketball, tennis, soccer, and cheerleading. As an exciting new addition to the event this year, participants will conclude the program with a relaxing yoga session.
Following each station, participants will gather in small groups to receive guidance and advice from current Lake Forest College students about how to incorporate healthy habits into their daily routines.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day was first recognized by Congress in 1987 to highlight the positive influence that sports have on the lives of women and girls. We invite you to join Lake Forest College in celebrating past and current achievements of girls and women in sports on Sunday, February 18.
