The Lake Forest College volleyball team defeated Marian University in three sets before falling in three to University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the UW-Oshkosh M.V.P. Invitational on Friday.
Junior Grace Franz and senior Madison Stevens shared team-high honors for the Foresters with a dozen kills apiece against Marian. They also combined for just four attack errors and a .444 hitting percentage in the contest. Sophomore Rebekkah De Kok added eight kills without an error in 11 attempts and Lake Forest posted a season-high .245 hitting percentage as a team.
Franz also led the Foresters with four aces while sophomore freshman Lilly Robinson added three to go with a team-high 19 assists. Robinson reached double figures with 10 digs while senior Izzi Visnjevac led the squad with 13.
The Foresters won the final five points of the opening set, which they won 25-16, and jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second. The margin reached as many as 12 points in set two, which ended at 25-17. Set three was tied at seven before Lake Forest rattled off 11 straight points. The Sabres battled back and closed to within two at 24-22 before a kill by Franz finished off the match.
Junior Mary Gegen led the Foresters with 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage against Oshkosh. She also tied with Franz for the team lead in digs with nine. Robinson added 10 assists and Franz a pair of aces.
Oshkosh led by as many as 10 points (16-6) in set one. The Foresters won the next six points but got no closer than three the rest of the way as the Titans took it 25-17. Oshkosh started the second set with a 10-0 run and cruised to a 25-14 victory. The home team had three 6-0 runs in the final set and rolled 25-11.
The Foresters are now 2-4 on the season and will continue play at the event with matches against Lakeland University and Bethel University on Saturday.
