The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team posted a convincing 23-5 victory at Monmouth College on Saturday.

Four Foresters recorded hat tricks in the game, including two who accomplished that feat in the first quarter. Freshman Brendan Herbert scored four goals and sophomore Trip Gaston three in the first 15 minutes and the Foresters led 8-0 at that point in the game.

Four different Lake Forest players combined for five goals in the second and the visitors were ahead 13-1 at halftime.

Among the team's eight goals in the third quarter were the fifth of the contest for Herbert, fourth for Gaston, third for junior John Casey and sophomore Bode Rubright, and second for senior Bobby Ojascastro. Sophomore Jack Gillard netted the first of his career and additional tallies came from sophomore Chas Dean and freshman Grant Pedersen.

Herbert scored his career-high sixth of the game with 8:38 remaining and, three minutes later, sophomore Parker Hevers became the 10th player on the team to score in the game.

Sophomore Connor Tartaglione, one of the four Foresters to score in the second, led the visitors with five ground balls and Gillard had a game-high three caused turnovers.

Lake Forest sophomore Andrew Widlar started the game in goal, stopped all three shots on goal he faced, and earned the victory.

The Foresters improved to 9-4 overall and sit atop the Midwest Lacrosse Conference standings at 3-0 in league play. Monmouth fell to 1-11 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Lake Forest will host Cornell College next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
