The Lake Forest College women's soccer team hosted and defeated North Park University 2-1 on Mohr Field on Monday.
Both of the home team's goals in the contest came off headers, the first just 97 seconds into the game. The Foresters earned a corner kick and sophomore Theresa Presberg's cross met the head of freshman forward Anna Hoffman in front of the goal. The ball was tipped up by the Viking goalkeeper and caromed down off the crossbar before landing just inside the goal line. It was Hoffman's sixth score and Presberg's second assist of the season.
The Foresters outshot their guests 6-4 in the opening half and put five shots on goal to North Park's one in the period.
The home team's lead doubled with 32:03 to play in the contest. A free kick from graduate student Hiwa Brown near the right sideline flew over the goalie and was headed just outside the far post when freshman Caitlin Mulcahy charged in and followed her header into the goal. Mulcahy's second goal of 2022 also turned out to be her first career game-winner.
While the Foresters' winning streak continued on Monday, their shutout streak finally ended at five when North Park struck at the 61:37 mark. More than 527 minutes of game time had passed since the team last surrendered a score.
Both teams attempted eight shots in Monday's second half.
Forester senior goalkeeper Maggie Kersting finished the game with six saves, her highest total in a month. The victory was the 28th of her career, leaving her just one away from matching Rachael LaFin for fourth place in program history.
Lake Forest improved to 9-3-3 while North Park fell to 3-6-2.
The Forester will resume Midwest Conference play at home this weekend, taking on Cornell College Saturday afternoon at 1:30.
