The Lake Forest College men's basketball team began the 2022-23 season with a 98-72 loss at Lakeland University Tuesday night.
Senior Johnny Roeser led the visitors with 26 points and eight rebounds. He shot 11-for-15 from the field and 4-for-5 from the foul line on the evening. Sophomore guard Alex Knight was next on the team with nine points and freshman guard Elijah Bull added eight.
The largest statistical discrepancy between the teams came at the three-point arc, where the Muskies connected 25 times in 32 attempts (46.9%) and the Foresters were just 2-for-16. Lakeland shot 54.5 percent from the field overall while Lake Forest was at 45.3 percent. The home team also had a 40-31 edge in rebounds.
Lakeland scored the game's first 10 points and jumped out to an 18-2 lead. The Foresters closed to within 11 during the first half but trailed 56-42 at halftime.
A layup by Roeser made it a 10-point game at 71-61 with less than 11 minutes to play in the contest, but Lake Forest got no closer. The Muskies led by 11 at 79-68 before outscoring their guests 19-4 in the game's final seven-plus minutes.
Lake Forest will be back in action Thursday night at the University of Chicago. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
