The Lake Forest College softball team dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting Concordia University Chicago in non-conference action on Wednesday.
Both Forester runs came home on a line drive double into the left field corner by freshman third baseman Cadence Dempsey in the bottom of the third. Freshman center fielder Emmie Nyen had a pair of bunt singles in the game and was one of the runners who scored in the third.
Concordia Chicago had taken the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning and plated three more in the second and one in the third.
Lake Forest pitcher Brooke Challe scattered five base hits in three-and-a-third innings of scoreless relief and fellow sophomore Ailee Pederson struck out the final two Cougars to bat in the contest.
The Forester defense was led by senior right fielder Elena Chrisman, who set career-highs with six putouts and two assists in the contest. She threw out a runner at home plate in the fifth inning and fired to second to double off a Cougar after catching a line drive in the gap in the sixth.
Lake Forest is now 12-9 and Concordia Chicago 11-12-1 on the year.
The Foresters will resume Midwest Conference play in Iowa this weekend. They are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Grinnell College Saturday afternoon at 1:00 and another at Cornell College at the same time on Sunday.
