The Forester men's hockey team will begin 2018 by battling the top-ranked team in the nation.
Lake Forest is coming off a pair of losses in Massachusetts last weekend and is now 7-6-0 overall and 4-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The team will host St. Norbert College (11-0-1, 6-0-0 NCHA), who enters the new year ranked first in the nation, Friday night. The Foresters and Green Knights split the 2016-17 season series with each team prevailing on the other's home ice. Lake Forest will also take on visiting Finlandia University (0-11-1, 0-5-1 NCHA) Saturday afternoon and will be looking for its 11th consecutive victory over the Lions.
The week will actually begin with a men's basketball game against Monmouth College at home on Wednesday. The Foresters split their games at the Roosevelt New Year's Classic last weekend and are now 8-3 overall on the season. Lake Forest and Monmouth (7-4) are two of three Midwest Conference teams tied atop the league standings at 4-0 in conference play. The Foresters won both meetings last year. Lake Forest will also travel to Ripon College (5-4, 2-2 MWC) on Saturday in a rematch of the 2017 MWC Tournament final. The Red Hawks took that contest and the teams split their regular season games with each winning on the other's court.
The Forester women's basketball team will follow the men against Monmouth on Wednesday and at Ripon on Saturday. Lake Forest is coming off a pair of losses at the JustAgame Classic in Wisconsin Dells last weekend and is now 4-6 overall on the year. The team will put its 3-1 MWC record on the line Wednesday night against the Fighting Scots, who are 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the league. Ripon enters the week 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the MWC. The Foresters swept Monmouth each of the last two seasons but dropped both games against Ripon last year after taking their only meeting in 2015-16.
After more than a month without a game, the Lake Forest women's hockey team will resume its season with a non-conference series against Saint Mary's University at home this Saturday and Sunday. The Foresters lead the nation in scoring and are 8-3-0 overall this season while Saint Mary's is 5-6-0. Lake Forest swept the Cardinals each of the last two years.
The Forester swimmers finished off the fall portion of their schedule a month ago and are on their training trip to California this week. Lake Forest will compete at Soka University on Sunday, where the teams will face off in a non-scoring meet for the ninth consecutive year.
