The Lake Forest College track team began its 2022-23 season at Carthage College's Forever Red Alumni Classic on Saturday.
Forester freshman Matthew Lungu set a school record in the 200m with a third-place time of 23.23 seconds. He was also fourth in the 55m in 6.70 seconds.
Also adding his name to the program's top-5 lists for indoor track was sophomore Bart Brophy, who was the runner-up in the 800m. He now ranks third in team history at 2:03.26.
Freshman Trenton Tyson and senior Lionel Whitehead added a point apiece to the Foresters' total with sixth-place finishes in the 400m and 800m, respectively. Tyson's clocking of 57.21 seconds ranks him fourth in program history.
The Lake Forest women turned in a pair of victories on the day. Junior Monika Wolska's 5:56.38 in the mile was nearly six seconds faster that the runner-up's time and freshman Atlas Hampton-Gregory edged out classmate Rawya Mechta in the 800m.
The meet was the Foresters' only competition of the fall semester. They are slated to return to Carthage to resume the 2022-23 season at the Firebird Opener on January 14.
