The Lake Forest College handball team competed at the Milwaukee Classic over the weekend and advanced to the finals of four different brackets.
Senior Collin Peters prevailed 21-11, 21-18 in his quarterfinal match in the Men's A Singles Division and added a hard-fought 19-21, 21-14, 11-8 triumph in the semifinals. The final was even closer and, unfortunately, he was edged out 21-20, 21-19.
Forester sophomore Zach Dybal was more successful in the final of the A Singles Consolation bracket, coming out on top 13-21, 21-2, 11-6.
Fellow sophomore Parker McElroy found himself in the Men's B Singles Consolation Division, where a tiebreaker was needed to decide both of his matches. He won 15-14, 4-15, 11-4 in the semifinals before falling 21-18, 16-21, 11-2 in the championship.
Freshman Audrey Peters was the only member of the Lake Forest women's team at the event. She rattled off three straight victories, including a dramatic 12-21, 21-8, 11-10 decision in the semifinals, before being defeated in the championship.
Lake Forest sophomore Dylan Schmitt competed in the Men's Open Singles Division, where he posted a 21-18, 13-21, 11-9 victory in the opening before being eliminated by the eventual champion in the round of 16.
Fellow sophomore Cameron Lowe almost made it an all-Forester final in the Men's A Division but fell in the semifinals.
Junior Mitch Dirnberger added a victory in the Men's C Singles bracket.
It was the final competition of the fall semester for the Foresters, who will be in action again on January 14 when they host several alumni and area players in an invitational singles event.
