Eight Foresters Advance to Divisional Semifinals at USHA National Collegiate Championships

Eight Foresters Advance to Divisional Semifinals at USHA National Collegiate Championships

Lake Forest players combined for a 14-3 record on day three of the 2023 U.S. Handball Association National Collegiate Championships on Friday.

Friday's play included the round of 16 and quarterfinals in each of the singles divisions and eight Foresters made it through the day unscathed.

On the women's side, senior Sarah Moskow won back-to-back matches in the A2 Division and will compete in the semifinals on Saturday. Freshman Arielle Augustyn, who out-performed her seed in the preliminary rounds to each a spot in the bracket, was defeated in the round of 16.

Competing one division higher than her teammates, freshman Audrey Peters also won twice on Friday. She outlasted her quarterfinal opponent 21-15, 14-21, 11-10 to secure a spot in Saturday's semifinal round.

In the Men's A1 Division sophomore Dylan Schmitt and senior Collin Peters combined to outscored their opponents 168-53 and make up half of the semifinal field. They could end up facing each other in the final on Sunday. Sophomore Zach Dybal made it through the round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals while junior Mitch Dirnberger was knocked off in his first match on Friday.

Sophomore Parker McElroy and junior Josh Levin also advanced to the semifinals on Friday, McElroy in the A3 bracket and Levin in B1. They are playing in the opposite divisions as last year when Levin competed in A3 Singles and McElroy defeated Dirnberger in the B1 final.

A pair of Foresters will compete in the B3 semifinals on Saturday. Freshman Ray Vo had a bye while classmate Seth Jayaprabhu defeated his opponent 21-3, 21-7 in the quarterfinals.

Lake Forest players combined for a 14-3 record on the day.

In addition to their singles matches on Saturday, Moskow and Peters will also look to advance to the final in Women's A1 Doubles.
