The Lake Forest College volleyball team prevailed 25-12, 25-22, 25-21 at Eureka College on Tuesday. It was the Foresters' third victory in a row and ninth in their last 11 matches.
The Foresters led 8-7 early on before winning 17 of the next 22 points and the opening set.
Neither team led by more than three points in set two. Eureka was ahead 22-19 when Lake Forest rattled off six straight to take the set.
The third set featured long runs by both teams. Five in a row for the Red Devils put the home team on top 10-8 but the Foresters answered with a pair of 6-0 runs separated by just one point for the home team. Eureka won seven consecutive points to pull to within two at 22-20 but Lake Forest was able to hold off the rally and close out the contest on a kill by sophomore setter Juli Barrientos.
Barrientos led the visitors with 13 assists and she served up three aces on the night, one fewer than junior Mary Gegen. Gegen reached double figures with 11 digs while senior Izzi Visnjevac led all players with 14.
Seniors Madison Stevens and Haley Bryant were the Foresters' top performers on the attack. Stevens led the squad with seven kills while Bryant had six without an error in just seven attempts.
Lake Forest improved to 11-11 on the season while Eureka fell to 7-16.
The Foresters will resume Midwest Conference play at home against Illinois College Friday night at 7:00.
