The Lake Forest College volleyball team defeated visiting Ripon College 20-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 Friday night.
Senior Madison Stevens led the home team with a dozen kills on the night while junior Mary Gegen finished with 11 kills and 15 digs for her sixth double-double in the last eight matches and eighth this season.
Forester senior libero Izzi Visnjevac tallied a match-high 23 digs and moved into eighth place in program history with 1,274 in her career. Freshman Lilly Robinson also reached double figures in digs with 14 and led Lake Forest with 24 assists.
The Foresters led by as many as four points early on but a 13-4 run by the Red Hawks turned the tide and the visitors took the first set.
Stevens began set two with a kill and Lake Forest never trailed. She added two more kills during a 10-3 run that closed out the set and tied the match.
A seven-point Forester lead in the third set was down to one at 16-15 but the home team won nine of the next 11 points, the last two on kills by freshman Holland Smits, to finish it off.
Set four was tied at 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 before Lake Forest took control again by taking eight of 11 points. Ripon closed to within one at 22-21 but a kill and an ace by junior Grace Franz set up match point, which the Foresters converted for the victory.
Lake Forest improved to 10-11 overall and 3-1 in Midwest Conference play this season. Ripon fell to 3-18 overall and 1-4 in the league.
The Foresters will look to even their overall record Tuesday night at Eureka College. The non-conference contest will begin at 7:00 p.m.
