The Lake Forest College volleyball team played its first road game of the season Tuesday night, a 25-8, 25-23, 25-16 loss at North Park University.
Junior Mary Gegen led the visitors in kills with nine while senior Izzi Visnjevac finished with a match-high 18 digs. Sophomore Juli Barrientos tallied 13 assists and served up the team's only ace.
The Foresters trailed 9-7 in the opening set before a 14-point run by the Vikings put it out of reach.
Set two was tied on four different occasions, the last at 21. North Park won the next three points and were denied set point by Lake Forest twice before closing it out.
The home team jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third set before the Foresters won six of the next seven points. They got no closer, however, and fell to 1-3 on the season. The Vikings improved to 3-2.
Lake Forest will play four matches at the UW-Oshkosh M.V.P. Invitational this weekend. After taking on Marian University at 5:00 and the hosts at 7:00 Friday evening, the Foresters will face Lakeland University and Bethel University Saturday morning at 9:00 and 11:00, respectively.
