Freshman Anna Gracia scored her sixth goal of the season to put the Lake Forest women's soccer team up 1-0 over Beloit College and secure a Forester win on Wednesday evening.
Assisted by senior Alyssa Xanos, Gracia scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 55th minute of play. After a free kick, Xanos took possession of the ball. She used some deft footwork to keep the ball from a Beloit defender and was able to move it closer to the box. When the opportunity presented itself, Xanos sent the ball sailing righ to Gracia, who headed it into the net, just over the outstretched hand of the Beloit goalkeeper.
The Foresters ran a tight defense throughout the game, allowing only two shots on goal during the entire 90 minutes of play. Senior goalkeeper Maggie Kersting made both saves and earned her 17th career shutout.
Lake Forest is now the only remaining team without a loss or a tie in conference play. They hold a 4-0 conference record and are 7-3-3 overall.
The Foresters play again at Illinois College on Saturday, October 8 at 1:30 p.m.
