A goal by junior forward Danielle Selby two minutes into overtime gave the Lake Forest College women's hockey team a 3-2 victory over visiting Adrian College, the fifth-ranked team in the nation.
It was a big day for senior goaltender Hannah Turnage, who received the program's Ry McCarthy Award during the first intermission. She had already made 14 saves at that point and finished with 53 to match the fourth-highest single-game total in team history. Her save percentage on the season improved to .938.
Selby's goal was her fourth of the year and capped off a back-and-forth battle. Adrian started the scoring at 9:06 in the second period while on the power play. The Foresters, however, tied the game at the 10:22 mark on senior forward Samantha Shoebottom's team-high 10th of the season. Sophomore defenseman Abby Meyer assisted on the goal and then scored one of her own with exactly five minutes to play in the period and the home team on the power play.
The score remained 2-1 in favor of Lake Forest until the 1:35 mark of the third period. Neither team struck again until Selby's game-winner in overtime.
Adrian finished with a 53-22 edge in shots on goal.
The victory raised the Foresters overall record on the season to 9-7-3 and evened the team's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark at 4-4-2. Adrian fell to 17-2-0 overall and 9-1-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will take on Lawrence University next weekend with Friday night's game in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse at 7:30 and Saturday's at 3:00 p.m. in Appleton, Wisconsin.
