The Forester women's hockey team prevailed 1-0 at Saint Michael's College Friday evening in the squad's third game in four days in Vermont.
The only goal of the contest was scored by junior forward Danielle Selby. She slipped past the Purple Knight defensemen, received a pass from freshman forward Zara Post near mid-ice, and converted the breakaway opportunity with a shot into the top-left corner of the goal. It was her second score of the trip and third this season.
Selby's tally was all the visitors needed, thanks to senior goaltender Hannah Turnage's first shutout of the season and fourth of her career. She made 23 saves in the contest, including 13 in the second period, and improved to 5-4-2 with a .939 save percentage on the year.
Lake Forest outshot the home team 21-7 in the opening period and 20-3 in the third. Saint Michael's had a 13-10 edge in that category in the second, making the final total 51-23 in favor of the Foresters.
The victory gave Lake Forest a 1-1-1 record in Vermont this week and a 6-4-2 mark for the season. Saint Michael's, which competes at the NCAA Division I level in hockey, fell to 1-15-1.
The Foresters will play their final non-conference game of the regular season at Trine University next Wednesday. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
