The Lake Forest College men's golf team's round of 294 in Friday's Forester Spring Invite was the best in school history and good for second place in the standings. The hosts also fielded a second group that placed sixth out of 19 teams.
The previous program record of 296 was posted in September of 2016 at Carthage College's Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament.
Sophomore Chris Petri was the Foresters' top player and tied-for-second overall with a one-under 71. His career-best round featured four birdies, including three in his final five holes.
Junior Ryan Higgins also posted a career-low round, completing the 6,816-yard course at White Deer Run Golf Club with an even-par 72. He birdied two of the first three holes he played and tied for fourth in the 111-player field.
Just one shot behind Higgins was senior James Johnson, thanks in part to an eagle on 17 and birdie on 18 to close out his round. He also had two other birdies earlier in the afternoon.
Sophomore Max Golding was also under par on four holes and finished tied-for-31st with a 78.
Sophomore Luke Duffer and junior Marty Swab led the Foresters' second team with scores of 75 and 76, respectively. Both players had four birdies on the day and Duffer added an eagle. Senior Connor Lindley added a 78 and their team score was 312.
Aurora University won the event with a score of 291, three shots better than Lake Forest. Elmhurst University was third at 297, just ahead of Carthage College (300) and Edgewood College (307).
The Foresters will be in action again on Saturday at the WLC Spring Invitational. The event, hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College, will be held at Morningstar Golfer's Club in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
