The Lake Forest College men's hockey team is hosting a series with Bethel University this weekend and was defeated 7-1 in Friday night's opener.
The Foresters scored the game's initial goal at the 8:34 mark of the first period. Sophomore forward Jared Gerger skated into the offensive zone and his diagonal pass found freshman forward Colin Bella in the left circle. Bella fired a shot into the top left corner of the goal for his team-high seventh score of the season.
Lake Forest's lead was short-lived, however, as Bethel tied the game just 37 seconds later. The visitors took the lead at the 14:41 mark and made the score 3-0 with a power play goal with 24.4 seconds on the clock.
The Royals added three goals in the second period and one more in the third. They out-shot the Foresters 37-24 on the night.
The loss dropped Lake Forest's record on the season to 3-4-3 while Bethel improved to 6-2-1. The same two teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon at 4:00.
