Lake Forest College senior forward Annie Lally scored 10 points in the first five minutes of her team's 59-47 victory at Lawrence University on Wednesday.
The Foresters accounted for the game's first 10 points and led by no fewer than six the rest of the way. Lally had a dozen points in the first quarter and the visitors were ahead 18-8 at that point in the game. THe margin grew to 12 but was back down to nine (26-17) at the half.
Senior guard Katie Neher, who was recently named National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association of America, scored 10 points in a third quarter that saw the lead reach 17 points but fall back to 12 at 43-31 with a period to play. A 12-3 run by the Foresters early in the fourth put the game out of reach.
Lally finished with a game-high 19 points while Neher scored 15 points and led all players in the contest with 14 rebounds. It was her third consecutive double-double, fourth in the last five games, and sixth this season. Freshman guard Taylor Major was also active on the boards, matching her season-high with 10 rebounds. She also dished out a game-high five assists and added a pair of steals.
Lake Forest shot 39.7 percent from the field but limited Lawrence to just 24.2 percent. The visitors also had a 46-41 rebounding edge.
The victory raised the Foresters' overall record on the season to 8-13 and Midwest Conference mark to 4-9. Lawrence fell to 7-16 overall and 3-11 in the league.
