The Lake Forest College women's lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals in the third quarter but fell 16-7 to Carthage College at home on Wednesday.
Forester junior Ali Graham scored three times during the run and had four goals and an assist in the contest. She leads the team with 23 points on 15 goals and 8 assists this season. Classmate Ryleigh Nelson had three assists, raising her team-high total on the year to 15.
Sophomore Jenna Doctor accounted for two of Lake Forest's other three goals and leads the squad with 17 this spring. Fellow sophomore Krissy Kuwahara scored the other on a free position shot and has five tallies in 2023.
Sophomore Abby Meyer led the Foresters with three draw controls while Graham led all players in the contest with five ground balls and a single-game program record seven caused turnovers.
Carthage jumped out to an early lead with three goals in the first six minutes and led 5-1 at the end of the opening quarter. The Firebirds also outscored Lake Forest 5-1 in the second.
It looked like the Foresters might stage a miraculous comeback after halftime as they rattled off five straight goals to make it a 10-7 game with three minutes to play in the period. Carthage, however, scored with 32.1 seconds on the clock to end the run and then pulled away with five more in the fourth.
Lake Forest is now 1-6 and Carthage 7-3 on the season.
The Foresters will begin Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play on Sunday against visiting Wartburg College. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Farwell Field.
