The seventh annual Heroes Day and year two of the Forester Invitational volleyball tournament highlight the first full week of action in Forester Athletics.
On Saturday the Lake Forest College football team will once again honor members of the Armed Forces (current and retired) as well as the Lake County Police, Fire, and EMT Departments. In addition to the day of celebrating service, the Foresters will be collecting donated items for their annual care package program. The season opener against visiting Beloit College will begin at 1:00 p.m. and there will be a moment of silence before the game to remember D.J. Baker, a member of the team who passed away unexpectedly this summer.
The College's volleyball team will also begin its season this weekend at the two-day, five-team Forester Invitational. Lake Forest will host Marian University at 4:00 Friday afternoon and the University of Dubuque at 8:00 p.m. The Foresters will then take on Alma College at 10:00 Saturday morning before closing out the event against Lakeland College at 2:00 p.m. Each of the five participating teams will play the other four over the course of the weekend.
Both of Lake Forest's soccer teams will open 2016 on the road Thursday night. The men will play at 7:00 at Benedictine University while the women begin at the same time at Wisconsin Lutheran College. The teams' first action of the season on Farwell Field will occur on Sunday when both squads take on Concordia University Wisconsin. The men's game will start at 1:00 in the afternoon and the women will follow at 3:00.
The third season of Forester women's golf will begin Friday at Carthage College's Shootout on the Border. The two-day event will be played at Bristol Oaks Country Club in Bristol, Wisconsin. Friday's competition will start at noon and teams will tee off again Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
The Lake Forest cross country teams will be off and running at St. Norbert College's Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday. The women's 5-kilometer race is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. with the men's 4-mile competition to follow at 11:45.
The only Forester team that has already competed this fall is women's tennis. Lake Forest hosted and defeated Edgewood College 7-2 on Saturday and will travel to Alverno College for the second match of the season at 9:00 Saturday morning .
