The Midwest Conference released the list of 2020-21 Academic All-MWC honorees on Monday and Lake Forest College was represented on the list by 38 student-athletes from spring sports.
The criteria to become an Academic All-MWC selection includes a minimum grade point average of 3.33, which is calculated only in the awarded academic year. Student-athletes who letter in any MWC sport are eligible for the award. Due to the cancellation of the league's fall and spring sport seasons in 2020-21, only athletes competing in spring sports were eligible this year.
Added to the Foresters' 35 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic Team members and six St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic selections in golf, the 38 Academic All-MWC honorees brings Lake Forest's total number of conference academic awards to 79, th emost in school history in those sports coombined.
Nine Forester seniors — softball players Shaye Gauthier, Hannah Kalnicky, Erin Karasewski, and Nicole Schussler; tennis players Julie Lord and Emma Wang; and runners Molly Gniady, Yaneli Guajardo, and Audrey Paglia — earned the award for the fourth consecutive year. They were among the 19 seniors at the College with a GPA of as least 3.33 in their final year.
The softball team's 14 selections led the way and matched the program record set in 2019. Ten women and seven men from the track team were also honored, as were five women's tennis players and two on the men's side.
"In a year that was filled with the added stress of a global pandemic, a shift to remote learning, and limitations to campus life which upended the traditional college experience, I'm impressed and delighted by the perseverance and continued commitment of our student-athletes to perform in the classroom," stated Lake Forest College Interim Director of Athletics Blake Theisen. "We proudly recognize these achievements and celebrate our continued tradition of athletic and academic excellence."
