Fresh off capturing a Midwest Conference men's soccer title, Lake Forest College will host this weekend's MWC Tournament. Several other Forester teams will also be in action as the fall winds down and the winter heats up.
After posting a convincing 9-0 victory over visiting Ripon College on Sunday, the men's soccer team finished the regular season 11-7-0 overall and atop the conference standings with an 8-1-0 record in league play. Lake Forest will host fourth-place Grinnell College (10-6-1, 6-2-1 MWC) in Friday's 11:00 a.m. semifinal and Knox College (13-3-2, 7-0-2 MWC) will take on St. Norbert College (14-3-1, 7-1-1 MWC) in the other semifinal at 1:30. Saturday's tournament final will begin at noon with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The women's soccer team will also be playing in the conference tournament this weekend after qualifying for the event on a thrilling 2-1 triumph over Ripon on Sunday. At 10-7-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the conference, the Foresters are the #2 seed and will also take on Grinnell (9-6-2, 6-2-1 MWC) in the semifinals Friday morning at 11:00. Knox College (17-0-1, 9-0-0 MWC) is hosting the event and will take on St. Norbert (9-7-1, 5-3-1 MWC) at 2:00 Friday afternoon and the winners will compete for the MWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in the final Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
The only other home event this weekend will be the men's hockey team's game against St. Norbert College Friday night at 7:00. The Foresters opened the 2016-17 season by sweeping Concordia University Wisconsin last weekend, taking Friday's game in Mequon, Wisconsin, 5-3 before rallying from two goals down for a 3-2 triumph at home on Saturday. The Green Knights are also 2-0-0 and ranked second in the nation. The teams will play again at St. Norbert Saturday night at 7:00.
The women's hockey team began the season with a split at St. Catherine University over the weekend. The Foresters took Saturday's opener 5-1 before falling 3-2 in overtime on Sunday. Lake Forest will travel even farther north in the state of Minnesota this weekend to face off against the College of St. Scholastica. Friday night's non-conference game will start at 7:00 and the team's will begin Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
After the Forester women placed fourth and the men fifth at last weekend's MWC Cross Country Championship Meet, the teams will compete in a 3200m time trial at North Park University on Friday. The Viking Trials are set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
The swimming and diving teams began the 2016-17 season with dual meet losses at Carthage College on Saturday. The teams will travel back to Wisconsin this Saturday for another dual meet at Carroll University. The contest between former conference rivals will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Finally, the Forester football team has already set several program records this season and will close out 2016 at Grinnell College Saturday afternoon at 1:00. Lake Forest hosted and defeated Knox College 55-17 last Saturday to improve to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in league play. The team has already scored more points than in any previous year and will look to add to the total against the Pioneers, who are 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the MWC.
