Katie McCants grew up in Galesburg, Illinois, and began her prep career at Galesburg High School. After moving to Menasha, Wisconsin, she attended Menasha High School and was a first team all-conference basketball player as a junior and senior.
McCants entered Lake Forest College in the fall of 1999 and became one of the most prolific scorers and rebounders in the history of the program. After averaging 8.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game coming off the bench as a freshman, she scored 12.4 points and grabbed 6.5 boards per contest over the next three seasons. She became just the fifth player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points and finished her four seasons ranked fifth in team annals in points (1,075) and rebounds (550) and third in field goals made (447) and field goal percentage (.515). McCants was named First Team All-Midwest Conference each of her final three seasons and, as a senior, earned Second Team All-Central Region honors from D3hoops.com and Honorable Mention All-America accolades from Kodak and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Lake Forest was extremely successful as a team during her career, capturing a conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament during each of her first three years. The Foresters’ 81 victories from 1999 to 2003 were still the most of any four-year span in program history at the time of her induction and the team posted a 55-9 record in league play during her career.
While at Lake Forest, McCants was also a member of Gamma Phi Omega sorority. She graduated from the College with a bachelor’s degree in communication.
McCants went on to a career in marketing and was honored with the Top Women in Grocery National Rising star award on multiple occasions.
