Softball player Sammie Zender was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after batting .615 in the team's doubleheader sweeps at Grinnell College and Knox College.
Zender, a freshman outfielder, collected a season-high three base hits in as many at-bats Saturday's game one at Grinnell, a 15-2 victory. Two of her hits were doubles and she scored three runs, drove in three, and stole a pair of bases in the contest. She was 1-for-3 with another stolen base and run scored in an 8-0 triumph in the nightcap. She also drew a walk in both contests.
Lake Forest won 13-6 and 11-2 at Knox on Monday and Zender was 4-for-7 on the day. In addition to belting her first career home run, she singled, scored twice, drove in a run, and stole a base in the opener. She singled in a pair of runs, scored once, and stole another base in game two.
Zender was 8-for-13 in the four games combined with seven runs scored, two doubles, a homer, six RBI, a 1.000 slugging percentage, and five stolen bases in as many attempts on the week.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
