Handball player Nikolai Nahorniak was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after claiming a national title in singles and doubles at last weekend's United States Handball Association Collegiate National Championship.
Nahorniak, a senior, also captured both titles at the 2010 USHA Collegiate National Championships. This year he teamed with classmate Victor Perez for the doubles title and defeated Perez for the singles championship.
Nahorniak and Perez were the top seeds in the doubles tournament and claimed the title by rattling off three straight victories, including a 21-5, 21-8 triumph over teammates Pat Jarvis and Isaac Acosta in Saturday's final.
He won five times to take the Open Singles championship, defeating Acosta 21-9, 21-5 in the semifinals and Perez 21-13, 21-4 in the final on Sunday.
Lake Forest won it's third consecutive men's, women's, and combined team championships.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
