The Lake Forest College spring sports announced their end-of-season awards on Monday. Sophomore Ryan Kreis repeated as the men's tennis team's Most Valuable Player and classmate Judy Gilbert received the same award in softball.
Kreis staked his claim as the best player in the Midwest Conference by claiming a league title at #1 singles. He and sophomore Anthony Warren were also semifinalists at the conference tournament at #1 doubles. He finished the spring with a singles record of 15-2, which a pair of victories over nationally-ranked opponents. Kreis was ranked as high as #11 in the Central Region during the season.
Gilbert served as a pinch-runner in 21 of her 15 appearances on the season. She was 2-for-4 and belted her first career home run in the team's regular season finale against Illinois College on May 3. Gilbert had a pair of stolen bases and scored three runs on the season.
Freshman Anthony Mykhaylovskyy was selected as the men's tennis team's Most Improved Player. He saw action in all but one of the team's 17 dual matches and reached the #6 singles consolation final at MWC Tournament.
Fellow freshman Alyssa Vechiola was the softball team's Most Improved Player. She was in and out of the lineup early in the season but started each of the Foresters' final 17 games, mostly at second base. She was 5-for-14 with four runs scored and three RBI during the final four regular season games as the team clinched first place in the MWC's South Division.
The men's tennis team was 8-9 overall and split its four MWC matches to finish third in the South Division. The Foresters' 64 points at the conference singles and doubles tournaments were good for third place in the league standings. The softball team was 17-18 overall but 7-1 in conference play.
