On Saturday, February 12, Lake Forest College hosted its annual Playing For A Cure day with three teams competing at home. While men’s basketball routed Monmouth College 89-33, women’s basketball won in a nail biter 70-68 over Monmouth in their annual Christine Neuman-Affourtit memorial game. The women’s hockey team beat Marian University 9-0 on their senior day and Ryann "Ry" McCarthy memorial game.
Christine Neuman-Affourtit and Ryann "Ry" McCarthy were important members of the Lake Forest College community who lost their respective battles to cancer in 2009. McCarthy was a two-year member of the women's hockey team and Neuman-Affourtit was a longtime Forester fan. It is because of their passion for life along with strength and spirit that the Forester family is dedicated to continue to fight this disease.
The "Think Pink" day started off with a Relay For Life kickoff in the Sports Center lobby which was followed up by various skits performed during the halftimes of both basketball games. Over at the ice rink, the chuck a puck contest help raised funds after the 2nd annual Ryann McCarthy Award was given to junior Mira Trebilcock.
Over $3,000 was raised on this day to promote cancer research.
