Katie Snowden grew up in Toronto, Ontario, and attended York Mills Collegiate Institute, where she was named Athlete of the Year four times.
Snowden entered Lake Forest College in 2003 and became the most accomplished female runner in school history. She earned All-Midwest Conference honors with top-10 finishes at the championship meet in each of her four seasons. Her best placing in the league was fifth in 2005 when she turned in the fastest 5-kilometer time in program history at 18:57. Fellow Foresters voted Snowden the team’s Most Valuable Performer all four years and she was also a three-year captain and two-time member of the Lake Forest College All-Sportsmanship Team. At the time of her induction, she still owned eight of the 25 fastest 5K times in program history, including the record, and was the Foresters’ only four-time All-MWC honoree in women’s cross country. Snowden was also a forward on the hockey team during each of her four years at the College, scoring 21 goals and adding 23 assists in 98 career games and serving as a team captain her senior season. She competed in both sports on November 1, 2003, placing 10th at the MWC Cross Country Championship Meet, which was hosted by Lake Forest, in the morning and lacing up her skates for a hockey game that afternoon.
Extremely successful in the classroom as well, Snowden was a three-time Academic All-MWC honoree and two-time member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic Team. The psychology major was also the recipient of the College’s Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, which is presented to the Forester with the highest grade point average in the previous three semesters.
After graduating from Lake Forest, Snowden went on to earn a master’s degree from McMaster University and became a physiotherapist. She also continued to race, completing multiple Ironman Triathlons and posting a personal best marathon time of 2:46.
