Rob Samuels grew up in Zion, Illinois, and attended Zion-Benton Township High School, where he was a four-year varsity letter winner in soccer. He was named all-conference and his team’s Most Valuable Player his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons and earned all-state honors as a senior. He graduated with season and career scoring records at Zion-Benton and was also a two-time academic all-conference honoree.
Samuels entered Lake Forest College in the fall of 1992 and became one of the most productive players in Forester men’s soccer history. He was a four-time All-Midwest Conference North Division selection and helped lead the team to conference championships in his freshman and senior seasons. Samuels was second on the team with 16 points as a freshman before leading the squad with 36 the following year. His point total as a sophomore ranked fourth in program history at the time of his induction and his 10 assists that season was tied-for-fifth. He was among the team leaders with 28 points both his junior and senior years and finished his career ranked second in team history with 108 points and 43 goals and fifth with 22 assists. Lake Forest posted an impressive 53-12-2 overall record and 34-5-1 mark in league play during his career. Samuels recorded an assist in his final collegiate contest, a 4-2 MWC Championship Game victory over visiting Grinnell College that gave the 1995 Foresters a program’s best 17-1-0 record.
Samuels graduated from the College in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in business and went on to a career in information technology.
He lists his wife Susan and children Jaden, Kendyl, and Alyssa as his greatest lifetime achievement.
