On Tuesday, April 16, 2013, the Lake Forest College Athletics
Department hosted the fourth annual Ry’s Run with 168 runners
participating. Music was blaring as the runners were getting ready
to run the 5K course around the practice fields on South Campus.
But, what was different about this year's run was that it was a
color run.
Solo and relay runners were splashed with pink, green, blue,
yellow, orange and purple as they passed by the color station. Click here to view a photo gallery from the
color run. Click here to view a short video from the color
run.
The run is in honor of former women’s hockey goaltender, Ryann McCarthy, who lost her battle with cancer in 2009. Many of Ry’s family members were in attendance including her parents, aunt, and younger cousins.
The winner of the second annual t-shirt design contest was softball student-athlete Aubrey Pendegraft '13.
Although Ry’s Run is deemed a ‘Fun Run’, awards were given to the top two female runners, top two male runners, top two faculty/staff, and top two relay teams. To even the playing field, members of the cross-country team had their own top two awards.
All of the proceeds from the race were donated to the American Cancer Society in Ry’s name. The run was also the kick-off for Relay For Life, which also raises money for the American Cancer Society along with cancer awareness.
