Sophomore forward Amy Budde's scored the visitors' only goal as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 5-1 at Adrian College in Saturday's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup final.
Budde skated in from the right side along the goal line and forced the puck past the Bulldogs' goaltender at 9:55 in the second period. Freshman forward Sydney Simone and junior forward/defenseman Kayla Griffith assisted on the Budde's team-high 18th goal of the season.
Budde's goal trimmed the Adrian lead to 3-1. The home team scored three times in the opening period, including twice on the power play. Adrian added two more scored in the third to secure the victory.
The Bulldogs out-shot Lake Forest 58-24 in the contest and a pair of Forester goaltenders combined to make 53 saves, tying the third-highest single-game total in team history.
Lake Forest, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, finished the season with a program record 21 victories against just six losses and a tie. Adrian is ranked second in the country and will enter next weekend's NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinals with a mark of 26-2-0.
The Foresters will lose just two players, forwards Allie Girard and Isabel Regine, to graduation in May.
