Freshman forward Lexi Morgan scored her first career goal but the Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 3-2 in overtime at St. Catherine University on Sunday.
Morgan, who was assisted by senior forward Allie Girard and freshman defenseman Julia Unterseher, tied the score at two at the 1:51 mark of the third period.
Morgan also factored in the first goal of the contest when she and junior defensman Kayla Griffith assisted on junior forward Olivia Spellmire's second goal in as many games this year. Spellmire came up with a shorthanded score on Saturday and her goal on Sunday came on the power play three minutes and 22 seconds into the game.
While the Foresters had the only goal in the first and third periods, the Wildcats scored twice in the second. They tied the score at the 11:12 mark and took the lead just 52 seconds later.
The Foresters outshot St. Catherine 45-16 on the afternoon and the home team's only shot on goal in overtime found the back of the net and ended the game with 1:46 on the clock.
Both teams are now 1-1-0 on the season.
Lake Forest will travel back to Minnesota next weekend for a pair of games in Duluth at the College of St. Scholastica. The teams will face off in a non-conference game Friday night at 7:00 before beginning Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
