Freshman forward Sydney Simone had three assists as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team prevailed 7-1 at Finlandia University on Friday.
Simone and freshman defenseman Amanda Boisjolie assisted sophomore forward Amy Budde on the game's first goal with 4:14 to play in the opening period. It was the first of four power play goals for the Foresters in the contest.
Lake Forest's next score came with Finlandia on the power play just 34 seconds into the second period. Simone was credited with an assist on the fourth goal of the season by junior forward Olivia Spellmire.
The home team pulled back to within a goal just 26 seconds later and the score remained 2-1 for the next 15 minutes of play.
The Foresters regained their two-goal advantage at the 16:01 mark on the second score this season by freshman forward Lexi Morgan. Junior defenseman Melissa Bodine assisted on Lake Forest's only even-strength goal of the game.
Forester junior defenseman Caroline Campbell added to the visitors' lead with 41 seconds remaining in the period with Budde and Simone assisting. It was Campebll's second goal of the year.
Junior forward Amanda Brunges converted another power play opportunity at the 7:09 mark of the third. Junior defenseman Kayla Griffith assisted on the second goal of the season for Brunges.
The Foresters tied one program record with their second shorthanded goal of the game at 13:48 and matched another with their fourth power play score of the afternoon at 15:02. Freshman Kate Fanning netted the team's sixth goal of the game and her second this season. Budde's team-high sixth of the year was set up by Spellmire and closed out the scoring.
Lake Forest out-shot the Lions 11-6 in the game's first 20 minutes, 23-5 in the second, and 21-5 in the third.
Forester freshman goaltender Jacgue Rogers made 15 saves and improved to 3-0-0 on the year.
The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record to 5-1-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 3-0-0. Finlandia fell to 0-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the league.
The Foresters, who are ranked eighth in the nation in this week's USCHO.com poll, will be off on Saturday ahead of Sunday's game at fourth-ranked Adrian College. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m. (EST).
