Sophomore forward Amy Budde was one of two Foresters with four points on the day as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team posted a 5-1 victory over visiting Northland College on Saturday.
Budde and freshman forward Sydney Simone combined for three goals and five assists in the contest. Simone started the scoring with a power play goal at the 12:30 mark of the opening period. Budde and freshman defenseman Amanda Boisjolie assisted on the score. Budde and Simone then set up freshman defenseman/forward Kate Fanning's third goal of the year with just 11.2 seconds to play in the period.
The Foresters out-shot the LumberJills 21-1 in the opening period and led 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.
Northland netted its only goal of the contest just 53 seconds into the second period.
After scoring just 16 seconds into their first power play opportunity of the game, the Foresters needed just nine seconds on their second such chance. Freshman defenseman Julia Unterseher scored the goal at the 3:05 mark of the second period. Her fifth of the year was assisted by junior forwards Amanda Brunges and Olivia Spellmire. The home team went back on the power play again at 3:17 and Budde netted her team-high ninth goal of the season at 3:37. Simone and junior forward Caroline Campbell were credited with assists on the play. The Foresters raised their NCAA Division III-leading power play goal total on the season to 17.
Lake Forest put a dozen shots on goal to the LumberJills' eight in the second period and took a 4-1 lead into the game's final 20 minutes.
The final goal of the afternoon was scored by Simone 86 seconds into the third. Fanning and Budde assisted her fourth tally this season.
The Foresters had 17 shots on goal in the third period while once again limiting the visitors to just one.
Lake Forest freshman goaltender Jacque Rogers made nine saves in the contest and improved to 3-1-0 on the season.
The victory improved the Foresters' record this year to 7-2-0 while Northland fell to 1-7-0. The teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
