Freshman forward Sydney Simone was one of seven Lake Forest players with a point as the Forester women's hockey team hosted and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin Tuesday night.
Simone scored her sixth goal of the season at the 6:11 mark of the second period. The power play score was assisted by sophomore forward Amy Budde.
The Foresters were also on the power play when they took the early lead at the 7:35 mark of the opening period. Freshman defenseman Julia Unterseher was responsible for the official game-winning goal, her sixth score of the year, and junior forwards Amanda Brunges and Olivia Spellmire were each credited with an assist.
Lake Forest, which entered the game having scored on a NCAA Division III-leading 30.7 percent of its power play opportunities, finished the night 2-for-6 to raise that mark to 30.8.
Junior forward Kayla Griffith closed out the scoring at 8:35 in the second period. Her eighth goal of the year was set up by sophomore forward Julianne Mauriello.
The Foresters out-shot Concordia Wisconsin 28-16 on the night. All 16 of the Falcons shots on goal were saved by junior goaltender Jacqueline Audet, who earned her first career shutout and improved to 7-1-1 on the year.
The game was the third in five days between the two teams. Lake Forest also posted a 3-0 victory Friday night and a 2-1 triumph 24 hours later in Mequon, Wisconsin. The Foresters, who moved up a spot to sixth in this week's USCHO.com Poll, are now 16-2-1 overall and 10-1-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Concordia Wisconsin fell to 6-10-2 overall and 2-8-2 in the league.
Lake Forest is off this weekend and will travel to St. Norbert College February 3-4.
