Junior forward Olivia Spellmire was one of two players to score three goals in the Forester women's hockey team's 10-1 victory over visiting Finlandia University on Friday.
Spellmire netted the first goal of the game at the 3:13 mark, made the score 4-0 with 1:18 to play in the first period, and finished off her first career hat trick at 6:53 in the third. Fellow junior Kayla Griffith completed her first hat trick as a Forester just 75 seconds before Spellmire and also lit the lamp at 14:39 in the first period and 2:54 in the third. Spellmire now has eight goals on the season and Griffith four.
Freshman forward Sydney Simone accounted for the home team's second of four goals in the opening period. It turned out to be the official game-winner and came at the 13:49 mark.
Finlandia's only goal of the evening was scored at 4:02 in the second period and was sandwiched by a pair of scores by Forester senior forward Isabel Regine, who gave Lake Forest a five-goal cushion a minute and 36 seconds into the period and again with 1:38 on the clock. She now has four goals on the year.
Senior forward Allie Girard, who assisted on three goals in the game, made it a career-high four points by scoring the final goal of the game while on the power play with 6:23 to play.
Junior forward Amanda Brunges, sophomore forward Amy Budde, freshman defenseman Amanda Boisjolie, and freshman forwards Lexi Morgan and Mary McLoughlin each had a pair of assists in the contest.
Lake Forest out-shot the Lions 54-8.
Forester junior goaltender Jacqueline Audet made seven saves and improved to 6-1-0 on the season.
The victory improved Lake Forest's overall record to 9-2-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 5-1-0. Finlandia fell to 0-10-0 overall and 0-7-0 in the NCHA. The same two teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Field House Saturday at noon.
