Senior forward Michelle Greeneway scored a pair of goals in the Lake Forest College women's hockey team's 4-1 triumph at St. Norbert College Saturday afternoon.
Greeneway gave the visitors the early lead with a power play goal just 57 seconds into the contest. She was assisted by sophomore defenseman Kayla Griffith and sophomore forward Olivia Spellmire.
The score remained 1-0 until Griffith converted another power play opportunity at the 6:46 mark of the second period. Her third score this season was assisted by Spellmire and sophomore forward Amanda Brunges. Greeneway then struck for the second time in the game at 12:39 with Griffith picking up her second assist and career-high-tying third point of the game. Senior Natalie Pattison also set up the score that gave Greeneway the NCAA Division III lead with 11 goals on the year.
Trailing 3-0 after two periods, the Green Knights finally got on the scoreboard 57 seconds into the third. It was the only goal allowed by Forester senior goaltender Allie Carter, who made 15 saves in the game and improved to 6-0-0 with a 0.67 goals against average and .962 save percentage on the season.
With the official's arm in the air, St. Norbert pulled its goalie with 1:40 to play in the contest. Four seconds later the penalty was called. However, Lake Forest senior forward Melissa Paluch won the draw, which quickly turned into an assist as senior defenseman Alex Stensland found the empty net for her fifth goal of the season and fourth in as many games.
The home team's goalie exited again 10 seconds later but the Foresters finished off the penalty kill and the victory, improving to 8-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. St. Norbert fell to 2-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will be off next weekend and will resume conference play at Finlandia University December 4-5. Friday night's game will begin at 7:15 (ET) and Saturday's at 4:00 (ET).
