Lake Forest College women's hockey player Olivia Spellmire was named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after helping lead the Foresters to a pair of victories last weekend.
Spellmire, a sophomore forward, began the weekend by scoring a power play goal in the opening period, lighting the lamp again 37 seconds into the second, and adding an assist later in the same period of a 9-0 triumph over Finlandia on Friday. It was her first career three-point performance.
The Foresters knocked off Adrian College, the second-ranked team in the nation, 6-2 Saturday night and Spellmire matched her stats from the day before. She scored the only goal of the first period while on the power play and then assisted the eventual game-winner in the second. She all but clinched the victory with an empty net score with 3:42 to play in the contest.
With six goals and nine points already this season, Spellmire has already surpassed her 2014-15 totals in both categories. She is tied for second on the team in goals and fourth in points.
NCHA Players of the week are selected by the league's directors of sports information and public relations.
