Lake Forest College women's hockey players Olivia Spellmire and Alex Stensland were selected to the D3hockey.com Team of the Week on Tuesday after combining for 11 points in a pair of victories over the weekend.
Spellmire, a sophomore forward, scored twice and added an assist in both of the wins. She converted a power play opportunity in the opening period, scored again 37 seconds into the second, and assisted on a goal later in the middle stanza of the Foresters' 9-0 rout of Finlandia University on Friday. The team also defeated #2 Adrian College on Saturday. Spellmire's power play goal was the only score of the first period and she assisted on the official game-winning goal in the second. After Adrian made the score 4-2 in the third, she added an empty net goal with 3:42 to play to all but clinch the victory.
Stensland, a senior defenseman, recorded an assist in each of the first two periods, scored a shorthanded goal in the third, and finished +5 against Finlandia. She then netted a power play goal in the second period, added an assist in the third, and posted a +2 plus/minus rating against Adrian.
The Foresters enter Tuesday night's game at Concordia University Wisconsin with an overall record of 6-0-1 and a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark of 4-0-0.
The November 17 D3hockey.com Team of the Week is the first of the season and includes six forwards, four defensemen, and a pair of goaltenders divided into a First Team and a Second Team. Spellmire and Stensland were First Team selections.
