Switaj and Kravich Tie Team's Career Assists Record in Win over Marian

Switaj and Kravich Tie Team's Career Assists Record in Win over Marian

The Lake Forest women's hockey team blanked Marian University 9-0 at home on Saturday. It was the final home game for five Forester seniors, two of which tied the program's record for assists in a career.

Melissa Kravich recorded three assists in the game and Lynn Switaj had two to go along with her seventh goal of the season. Both players now have 44 helpers in their time at the College, tying the team record set by Courtney DeHoey and Allison Rushing, who finished their careers in 2008.

The nine goals represented the third-highest single-game total in program history. Each was scored by a different player, beginning with the first in the career of freshman Amanda Forsyth at the 11:08 mark of the opening period. The power play goal was assisted by senior Kim Herron and sophomore Angie Chronis. Freshman Stephanie Slinde also converted a power play opportunity for the home team at 16:00. Switaj and junior Molly Wallner assisted on Slinde's seventh of the season.

Kravich and Forsyth assisted on the first goal of the second period at 9:02. It was also the team-high eighth of the year for junior Jessica Dare. Wallner lit the lamp for the first time this season at 16:42. Kravich and Slinde assisted on the Foresters' third power play goal of the contest. Sophomore Rosy Fujimoto extended the home team's lead to 5-0 with 68 seconds to play in the period. It was her seventh of the year and was assisted by Switaj.

Freshman Jackie Friedrich became the third Lake Forest player to score her first goal of the season when she found the back of the net three minutes into the third period. She was assisted by freshman Emily White and junior Mira Trebilcock, who was presented with the program's second annual Ry McCarthy Award at the first intermission. Chronis then assisted on freshman Emily Cornett's second goal of the season at 5:37 and White scored for the second time this year at 14:26 with assists credited to Trebilcock and Wallner. Switaj closed out the scoring with 35 seconds to play in the game. Herron and Kravich assisted on the goal.

The victory was credited to senior goaltender Brittany Lemke, who stopped all seven shots on goal she faced in the first 29 minutes of the game. She is now 10-5-0 since joining the Foresters midway through the 2008-09 season. Classmate Alyssa Wintermute played the final 31 minutes of the contest and also had seven saves, lowering her goals against average on the year to 2.25 and raising her save percentage to .922.

Lake Forest is now 10-8-3 overall and 6-8-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Sabres fell to 1-20-1 overall and 1-16-0 in the league. The same two teams will face off in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.
