The Forester women's hockey team was defeated 2-1 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday. Freshman Stephanie Slinde gave Lake Forest the lead five minutes into the contest but the nation's sixth-ranked team came back for the victory.
Slinde's score came on the power play and was her third of the season. She was assisted by senior Lynn Switaj.
River Falls tied the game on a power play goal at the 13:40 mark of the opening period. and the score was still tied 1-1 at the first intermission.
The Falcons scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal at 7:34 in the second period.
The home team had a 48-15 advantage in shots on goal in the contest but senior goaltender Alyssa Wintermute tallied a season-high 43 saves to keep the Foresters in the game. She raised her save percentage for the season to .937 and kept her goals against average at 2.00.
River Falls is now 5-0-0 overall and 4-0-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Foresters fell to 5-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the league. Lake Forest will not play again until Tuesday, November 30, at UW-Stevens Point. The NCHA contest will begin at 7:00 p.m.
