The Forester women's hockey team began the 2010-11 season by blanked visiting Augsburg College 2-0 Friday night. Senior goaltender Alyssa Wintermute recorded her school record sixth career shutout, breaking her tie with Sally Bevis '07.
The teams played a scoreless opening period, despite the Foresters out-shooting the Auggies 23-5.
After waiting until the league playoffs to score the only goal of her freshman season, Angie Chronis lit the lamp twice in the 2010-11 season opener. Lake Forest was missing four of its forwards so she was moved up from her role as avdefenseman. She netted the Foresters' first goal of the year at the 10:45 mark of the second period and added the other score exactly four minutes later. Sophomore forward Jenn Caldwell assisted on the first goal and the second was set up by sophomore forward Chelsea Thompson and junior forward Jessica Dare.
Lake Forest had a 17-7 edge in shots on goal in the second period but put only 11 on target, compared to Augsburg's 13, while killing three penalties in the third.
Wintermute finished the contest with 25 saves in as many opportunities.
The same two teams will face off again tomorrow evening at 5:30.
