The Lake Forest College women's hockey team won 2-1 at UW-Stevens Point, the ninth-ranked team in the nation, Tuesday night. Forester sophomore Chelsea Thompson started the scoring with her first goal of the season.
Thompson lit the lamp at the 2:37 mark of the second period and was assisted by junior Mira Trebilcock. Senior Lynn Switaj then gave the Foresters a 2-0 lead on a power play goal at 10:06. Freshman Sarah Gilbride assisted on Switaj's fourth goal of the season.
Lake Forest senior goaltender Alyssa Wintermute saved each of the Pointers' seven shots on goal in the first period and all three in the second. The home team finally got on the scoreboard on a power play goal at the 11:16 mark of the third.
Wintermute finished with 13 saves in the game and is now 3-2-0 on the season with a 1.80 goals against average and .936 save percentage.
The Foresters raised their overall record on the year to 6-2-1 and evened their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 2-2-1. Stevens Point fell to 6-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the league.
The Foresters' next game is also against the Pointers in five weeks on January 4. The teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. in Lake Forest College's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
