The Forester women's hockey team was defeated 6-3 at home Friday night by Adrian College. Lake Forest junior Kim Herring's goal late in the second period trimmed the deficit to 4-3 but a pair of third period scores by the Bulldogs in the third put the game away.
Adrian scored the first goal of the game while on the power play at 6:02 in the opening period. The Foresters evened the score on freshman Stephanie Slinde's sixth goal of the season at 9:18. Freshman Jackie Friedrich assisted on the score. The Bulldogs, however, regained the lead just 37 seconds later and were still ahead 2-1 at the first intermission.
The visitors doubled their lead just 25 seconds into the second period and took a 4-1 at 2:56. Junior Mira Trebilcock converted a Forester power play opportunity at 7:31 and Herring brought the home team to within one at 15:55. Junior Jessica Dare assisted on Trebilcock's fourth goal of the year and Herring's fourth of the season was set up by senior Lynn Switaj and freshman Maeve Connelly. Herring's goal was also her 78th career point, tying her with Laura Wilson for third in team history. The assist by Switaj was the 42nd in her four years on the team, two shy of the program's career record shared by 2008 graduates Courtney DeHoey and Allison Rushing.
Trailing 4-3 going into the third and final period, the Foresters surrendered a power play goal at 10:42. Adrian scored the last goal of the game with just 13 seconds to play.
Lake Forest fell to 9-7-3 overall and 5-7-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Bulldogs raised their overall record to 11-6-3 and league mark to 9-3-3.
The same two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.
