The Forester women's hockey team defeated visiting Ausgburg College 4-2 on Saturday to complete a 2-game weekend sweep of the Auggies. The first career goal by freshman Emily Cornett was also the eventual game winner.
The opening period was scoreless for the second day in a row and a Forester goal just 11 seconds into the second period was disallowed because the horn went off accidentally just before the shot was put on net. Junior Jessica Dare then officially started the scoring at 6:54 with her first of the season. The Auggies evened the score on their first goal of the year.
A goal by senior Sam Herron at 14:30 was assisted by junior Mira Trebilcock and the first career score for freshman Emily Cornett came just 71 seconds later.
Augsburg took advantage of a power play opportunity and pulled back to within a goal with 31 seconds remaining on the second period clock.
Forester freshman Emily White then gave the home team an insurance goal. She who was assisted by Herron and junior Molly Wallner.
Lake Forest senior goaltender Brittany Lemke stopped 32 of 34 shots on goal to earn the victory.
The Foresters will continue non-conference play against visiting St. Olaf College next weekend. The teams will play at 7:00 Saturday night and at 2:00 the following afternoon.
