The Lake Forest College track team traveled to Beloit College on Friday for day one of the 2022 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Highlighting the Foresters' performance on Friday was a runner-up finish in the women's 1500m run by junior Madeline Morland. Despite temperatures in the low-90s, her 4:49.08 was less than two seconds off the winning time and just .12 seconds away from the program record she set a few weeks ago. Morland is the fourth female to earn All-MWC honors in the short history of the program and the first to do so in the 1500.
Lake Forest had three of the 26 competitors in the men's 1500. Senior Christian Reyes, competing for the first time this year after studying abroad during the spring semester, finished 13th in 4:38.51. Freshman Dean Kousiounelos was next on the team and 17th overall with a time of 4:45.53 and senior Julián Cano was 22nd in 5:00.16.
Forester freshman Andrew Douthat and sophomore Sarah McField were each in three events on Friday, beginning with the long jump, where both finished 18th. Douthat was 16th in the 100m prelims and 20th in the prelims of the 200 while McField placed 17th in both events. Senior Jessica Heard added a 22nd place finish in the 200.
The MWC Championships will conclude on Saturday. Reyes will be in action again in the 3000m steeplechase and Morland in the 5000m run. Forester graduate student Audrey Paglia will compete in the 800m run, where she owns the league's best time so far this season.
