Paglia's 800 is Foresters' Top Performance at MWC Championships

Paglia's 800 is Foresters' Top Performance at MWC Championships

A runner-up finish in the women's 800m run by graduate student Audrey Paglia highlighted the Lake Forest College track team's efforts on the final day of the Midwest Conference Indoor Championships at Knox College.

Paglia completed her four laps in 2:24.94 and edged out the third-place finisher by just .11 seconds. That time is nearly two seconds faster than her previous career-best in the indoor 800 and moves her up a spot to second on the program's all-time list in that event.

The runner Paglia passed on the 800 list was junior Madeline Morland, who backed up Friday's fourth-place finish in the mile with the same placing in Saturday's 3000m run. Her time of 10:47.96 was nearly a minute faster than anyone else in her heat and was just .38 seconds off of All-MWC status, which goes to the top three finishers in each event.

Paglia and Morland also contributed to the other two points earned by the Forester women. They were joined by freshman Delfina Jorgensen and sophomore Becca Ray in the 4x400m relay and placed seventh in 4:43.01.

The best performance by the Lake Forest men also came in the 800, where senior Mathieu Norcross was 10th with a time of 2:06.87. Freshman Bart Brophy was 11th in 2:06.99 and classmate Jake Sharifi 16th in 2:17.93.

Freshman Alec Macartney was 15th in the 3000m run with a time of 9:57.37.

The Lake Forest women tallied 20 points on the weekend while the men had three.

Select Foresters will close out the indoor season at Carthage College's Firebird Finale next Friday.
