Hall of Famer Dean Hayes Passes Away at Age 85

Dean Hayes, a 1959 graduate of Lake Forest College and Forester Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, passed away on January 7. He was 85 years old.

Hayes came to the College from Naperville High School and was a four-year letter winner on the Forester track and field team. He returned to the College as an assistant coach before leaving to become the head men's track and field and cross country coach at Middle Tennessee State University, a position he held for 57 years.

In addition to his hall of fame career at MTSU, Hayes coached internationally for teams sponsored by the United States Olympic Committee, USA Track and Field, and other international federations. The track stadium at MTSU was named after Hayes and he was inducted into several halls of fame, including the Foresters' in 2009.

Hayes was still the Blue Raiders' head track and field coach as the time of his death.
