Lake Forest College's Madeline Morland was named Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week on Tuesday for her performance at Friday's Elmhurst Invitational.
Morland finished first in a field of 49 runners in the 1500m run. The junior's time of 4:48.96 was 1.6 seconds faster than the runner-up in the race and a program record by more than two-and-a-half seconds. In addition, the clocking is the best in the conference this season by nearly 10 seconds.
It was the second straight week with a school record and third in a row with a victory for Morland, whose winning time of 18:17.54 in the 5000m run on April 23 was also the best clocking in team history. She claimed another victory in the 1500 on April 10 in the team's first outdoor meet of the spring.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors. Morland is the first Forester female to earn the award in track since it became a varsity sport at the College in 2017.
